Lee A. McKenzie, 86 of Sandwich, IL, passed away on September 25, 2024 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, IL. Lee was born in Eureka, CA to Kenneth & Farol Blankenbaker on November 8, 1937.
She went to Thornton Fractional High School in Calumet City, IL. She graduated from Moody Bible Institute. She married David N. McKenzie on May 6, 1961 in Mt Ayr, IN.
She worked at various jobs throughout her life in both Illinois and Michigan including Librarian, Day Care Manager and Purchasing Agent. She was involved in various activities. She was a member of The Red Hat Society and enjoyed their many events. She was a member of St John’s Lutheran Church and was on the fellowship and hospitality committee. She volunteered at Fox Valley Community Center where she loved going almost every day to play games, exercise and socialize with her many friends. She volunteered at Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital and loved working in the gift shop at the hospital.
Lee is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Blankenbaker; Mother, Farol Wampsher; Son, Chrisopher McKenzie; Sister, Carlene Robbins; And a brother, Kenneth ‘Dean’ Blankenbaker.
Lee is survived by her husband, David McKenzie; Son Tim McKenzie, daughter-in-law Marianne McKenzie, daughter Michele Anderson, son-in-law John Anderson; Sister Pat Conley (John); Grandchildren, Brianne Fink, Shaun McKenzie, JJ Fink (Kristy), Alexis Blatner (Aaron), Peyton McKenzie, Stephanie Hansen (Jordan), Dana Williams (Durrell); And great grandchildren, Logan, Ryan, Christopher, Harper, Cayden, Mason, Liam and Lucas.
Pallbearers will be Shaun McKenzie, JJ Fink, Aaron Blatner, Jordan Hansen, Logan Hansen, Ryan Hansen
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Beverage Family Funeral Home, 104 Terry Street, Sandwich, IL 60548.
A funeral service will be held next day, Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St John’s Lutheran Church, 235 S Green St, Somonauk, IL 60552 with Pastor Christine Schoon officiating. A graveside service will take place at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage Family Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at www.beveragefamilyfh.com
Memorials may be given to St John’s Lutheran Church and/or Fox Valley Community Services.
