Lela Mae Hendrix, 81 of Granite City passed away on Wednesday, March 4. 2015 at Eden Village in Glen Carbon. Lela was born on February 20, 1934 in Nebo, IL; a daughter to the late Loren and Verna (Allison) Willman. Lela gave over 21 years as a checker at Kroger Grocery Store in Granite City, was a clerk at Nine West Shoe's and worked at J.J. Calico. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekkah Lodge and attended City Temple in Granite City. Most importantly she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by her entire family and all that knew her. She is survived by and will be missed by her children; Kathy and (Robert) Knezevich of Edinburg, IL, Mike Hendrix of Granite City, IL, Chris Hendrix of Edinburg, IL, Lisa and (Jeff) Henry of Granite City, IL; grandchildren, Alissa and (Mike) Lipchik, Nathan and (Elena) Knezevich, Crystal and (Rick) Lechner, Meridith and (Jake) Rebbe, Marissa Henry, Ralph Thomas and (fiance' Courtney), Samuel Henry, Dawn Harris; great-grandchildren, Natalie Rebbe, Collin Rebbe, Hannah Lipchik, Sophie Lipchik, Abigail Lipchik, Phoebe Lipchik, Edgar Knezevich; sisters, Betty Barnette, twin sister, Lena Thomas, Loretta Siepp; brothers, Jack and (Marianne) Willman, Ronnie and (Melveen) Willman. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years; Jimmie Hendrix, whom she married on August 21, 1952; her brother, Grant Willman; her daughter-in-law, Wanda Hendrix. In celebration of her life friends may call on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:30 p.m. at City Temple, 4751 Maryville Road in Granite City with Pastor Rich Cope officiating. Burial will follow at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights. Memorials are suggested to City Temple or the Alzheimer's Association.
