Lela Belle Myrick Powell, born June 9, 1930, in Georgiana, Alabama to Carl and Barbara Myrick, moved from her temporal to her eternal home in heaven on Wednesday December 31, 2025. Along with her parents, she is once again with her husband, Alfred, son-in-law Joe Monachino, her brothers Clarence, Ralph, Ted and John, nephews Wayne and Tim. Left behind to remember her strong, independent, giving life are her children, Rick Powell (Janet), Angie Monachino, and Linda Morgan (John), six grandchildren Jeremy Powell (Amanda), Wesley Powell (Kristie), David Monachino (Jess), Jamie Monachino (Rex), Joey Monachino (Darian) and Savannah Morgan, four great-grandchildren, Gaby Monachino, Jack Powell, Roman Holliday and Miriam Monachino, a sister, Mae Newton, and a brother, Lewis Myrick.
She was born on a farm picking cotton, milking cows, working in the fields from sunup to sundown at a time with no electricity, no air conditioning, no phones, and horse and buggy for transportation. Her signature in life was her strong work ethic. Her first paid job was as a bookkeeper at W.T. Smith Lumber Company in Chapman AL. Later she worked as a telephone operator in Greenville AL. Most of her pay before she married went to her parents and then to her siblings to make their lives more fulfilled. Giving of herself was the hallmark of her life. She sought out the underdogs, those in need, and helped them with a zeal that was unequaled. Countless lives were changed by her selfless giving of time, energy, and money. She laid up for herself treasures in heaven, never seeking earthly riches. Even in the last weeks of her life she was wanting to continue her donations to Charlie Kirk's TPUSA, David Jeremiah, World Challenge, Pre-born, and many others, to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.
She and her husband worked hard to provide for their three children, doing without, putting away for a rainy day, so as to not ever be dependent on the government/taxpayers. The good Lord and this fiercely independent trait kept her healthy, strong, and living by herself until she was almost 94. Her greatest desire above all, was that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would have a personal relationship with Jesus so they would all be together in heaven one day. We will miss her more than words can express! Until we meet again!
The funeral service will be at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North, January 8, 2026, with Allen Newton and Russ Myrick officiating. Visitation from 12:30pm to 1:30pm for friends, with funeral service immediately following at 1:30pm.
Pallbearers are Jeremy Powell, Joey Monachino, Rex Holliday, Tony Myrick, Steve Myrick, and Clayton Kilpatrick.
