Leland Davis, 59, of Gilmer, Texas, went home to his Lord on December 31, 2023. He was born August 1, 1964, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Charles Perry and Joyce Francis Pullen Davis. Leland was a life long resident of Upshur County, and stayed true to his family roots. After graduating from Gilmer High School in 1982, he attended Lon Morris College and graduated in 1985, then continued his education at Stephen F. Austin. Leland worked for many years in the restaurant business as a General Manager, Owner, and Consultant for Pizza Hut, Inc.
Leland owned and operated Uncle Vinnie's Pizzeria, Country Cafe and Perry's Pizza in Gilmer. He was an accomplished cook, and also helped cook for local businesses and events. After putting his cooking tools down, he started a mowing business and mowed many cemeteries in the Upshur County area along with being the caretaker and President for the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association.
As a member of Union Ridge Methodist Church, Leland helped oversee the church that his family started, and he was also very active in the First Methodist Church of Gilmer, the Methodist Men's Organization, and The Food Pantry. he was also a member of the Son's of the Confederacy and, he enjoyed learning about the history and geneaology of the Davis family.
Leland's biggest passion was his family and friends. He never met a stranger, and was always "making the rounds" and visiting with others. The kids and grandchildren were always a priority in his life, from school events to meals and functions. Leland was the friend that was always there for someone to support or help. He had a big heart for others.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Lynn Davis.
Survivors include his "Fur Babies", Pepper and Brownie; sister, Leandra Davis Taylor and partner, Robert Spears; his kids, Daniel Ramos, Ashley Beal and husband, G. C., Michael Ramos; grandchildren, Caden, Kaiden and Kyler; nieces and nephews, Justin Taylor and wife, Shelby, James Henry Taylor, Jordan Taylor, Jessica Taylor Melendez and husband, Peter, and Sophia Kay Melendez as well as a host of friends.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00PM Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Union Ridge Methodist Church with Reverend Matthew Smith officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Donations may be made in Leland's honor to the Union Ridge Methodist Church or the Pleasant Grove Cemetery Association.
