Leland L. Lowary

Leland L. Lowary, 80, of Ridgeway, IL, formerly of Astoria, IL, passed away at 3:25 pm on Friday, August 2, 2024 at Deaconess Midtown Campus Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born on October 23, 1943 in Hancock County, IL, the son of Virgil and Bertha (Damon) Lowary. Leland married Mary Schisler on December 20, 1997 in Astoria. She survives.
Also surviving are four sisters; Darlene Becerra of Ft. Madison, Lillian Graber of Bowen, IL, Betty Simmons of Keokuk, IA and Charlotte Galant of Flint, MI, and two brothers; Clarence Lowary of Ft. Myers, FL and Lester Lowary of Keokuk.
He is preceded in death by three sisters; Shirley Lowary, Sharon Lowary and Ruth Porter, and three brothers; Jerry Lowary, Terry Lowary, and Lawrence Lowary.
Leland worked as a building custodian at Central Lee School District in Donnellson, IA for 9 years, retiring in 1991. He also worked as an electrician and plumber. Leland, along with Mary, mowed several lawns in Astoria for several years.
He was a member of the Astoria Christian Church.
Services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Matthew Thiner will be officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will take place in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Astoria Fire & Recue Squad.
