Lena Marie Perkins, formerly of Cawood, who was known for her strong work ethic and unwavering faith, passed away on June 19, 2024 leaving behind a legacy of compassion and dedication. She was born on February 19, 1944 in Smith, KY, to Meb and Sitney Bargo Middleton. She then married the love of her life, Chester Perkins, on August 19th, 1961.
Lena's life was marked by her resilience and hard work. She held various jobs throughout her life, from working in factories, restaurants, and as a seamstress, to serving as a dedicated Registered Nurse for over 30 years. She completed nursing school while also managing the responsibilities of being a homemaker and raising four children. Lena's commitment to caring for others was one of her proudest accomplishments, embodying the true spirit of a Proverbs 31 Woman.
In addition to her professional achievements, Lena was known for her passion for gardening, canning, and sewing. She was a member of Redemption Church in London, KY.
Lena's faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and instilling in her a deep love for her family. She loved unconditionally and was a source of strength and support for all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, Chester Perkins; Son, William Chester Perkins; Brothers, Bill Middleton and Maynard Middleton; Sisters, Helen White, Adeline Napier and Barbara Arcand; Special Niece, Beverly Hensley.
Lena is survived by her loving children, Mark Perkins of Speedwell, TN, Kimberly Long and husband George of London, KY, and Marie Grubbs of Harlan, KY. She is also survived by her Brother, Elmon Middleton; Sister, Nada Hensley; Grandchildren, Jason Middleton, Samantha Middleton, Brianna Middleton, Anthony Perkins and Wife Tonya, Adam Perkins and Wife Christina, Kerri Shelton and Husband Billydean, Caleb Long, Kylie Faith Long and Lynzee Sturgill; Fourteen great-grandchildren; Two great-great-grandchildren; as well as a special nephew, Michael Perkins; Special Sister-in-law, Frances Coleman; and Eva Bargo who was a Sister to her throughout the years; A host of many other relatives and friends will also mourn her passing.
Lena Perkins will be remembered not only for her strong will and professional accomplishments but also for the love she shared with those around her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation for Ms. Perkins will be held on Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 12PM to 2PM in the Chapel of Mount Pleasant Funeral Home. Funeral Services will begin at 2PM with her Gradson-In-Law, Billydean Shelton officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
