Lenard D. Shipley

Lenard D. "Lenny" Shipley, age 79, of Lorain, passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2022, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
He was born on June 23, 1943 in Uniontown, PA. Throughout his life, he had the opportunity to live in many states, with some of his most memorable being Hawaii and Washington DC while serving in the United States Marine Corps. Lenny was eager to serve his country and enlisted in the Marine's before he was able to graduate high school. He ended up serving 10 years before his honorable discharge in 1970. During which, he did two tours in Vietnam.
After serving in the military, Lenard ending up working several jobs before beginning his career for Delta Airlines in 1978, where he advanced through several positions before retiring in 1997. However, he was not ready to settle down and stop working just yet. So, he went to work at Walmart first as a greeter and later as a cashier at night. He finally retired for the second and last time in 2013. He enjoyed being a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and was also a member of the Elks Club for a few years.
Lenard was an avid golfer and liked bowling on a league. When he would relax at home, he enjoyed watching movies and football. He always cheered for his two favorite teams Penn State and the Atlanta Falcons.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Gwendolyn R. (nee Mundt), his twin brother, Bruce Wayne Shipley, his wife Emily Shipley, of El Paso, TX, sister, Darla Purcel, of Lorain, and brother, Erwin Shipley and his wife Sharon Shipley, of Masontown, PA. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Lenard was preceded in death by his parents; Forrest & Daisy (nee Townsend) Shipley, a brother, Edwin, sister, Dorothy Tanner, and his brother-in-law, David Purcel.
The family will be celebrating his life privately and his inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, Amherst, is assisting them with arrangements. To send an online condolence, please go to www.dovinreberjones.com.
