A celebration of life will be held on Monday, October 6th, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Allamakee County Fairgrounds Pavilion in Waukon. Lennis Dale Shurtleff was born January 10, 1965, in Sioux City, IA. His parents were Dale Eugene and Lucille Mae (Heidebrink) Shurtleff. He attended North Junior School and graduated from West High in 1983, both in Sioux City, IA, where he played basketball, baseball, and football. Lennie worked for Gateway Computers in South Sioux, NE, before transferring to Virginia, as a technician. When he moved to the Waukon area, he worked for Monona Wire and drove an Amish construction crew until he retired.

He met Joan Bollman Hughes on Valentines Day in 2004, and he said she was his soulmate; they were married on July 8, 2006. Len enjoyed listening to rock music by Stevie Ray Vaughan. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeye, New York Yankees, Denver Broncos, and NASCAR. Len and Joan loved to play cards, dice, and going fishing and to the casino. He also loved playing pool.

Survivors include his wife Joan Shurtleff of Waukon; three children: Shawn Hughes, Scott (Crystal) Hughes, and Samanthia (Ken) Jefferson; 17 grandchildren: Paige, Leah, Bailey, Levi, Destiny, LeNae, Caleb, Christian, Jordan, Dakota, Blake, Ethan, Trinity, Connor, Mika, Mitchel, and Timothy; and 25 great-grandchildren with two on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law LeRoy and Frances Bollman; and two grandchildren: Shawn Hughes, Jr. and Mikayla Archuleta.
