Leo P. Fernandez

Leo P. Fernandez, 73, of Englewood, NJ, finished his race on November 2, 2025.

Beloved husband of 47 years to Rebecca (née Blanco), loving father of Jeffrey Leo Fernandez and Jenna Fernandez, father-in-law of Mary Anne Fernandez, and grandfather of his soon-to-arrive grandchild.

Leo was born in Asingan, Pangasinan, Philippines to Eusebia (née Parilla) and Florentino Fernandez. He immigrated to the U.S. in April 1979 and, for decades, was a construction project manager with several prestigious New York City construction firms, the last of which was Tishman Construction Company. Even to this day, thousands of people live in and walk through his projects, such as the World Financial Center and Riverside Boulevard in Manhattan.

Leo loved family dinners out, a good cappuccino, and his collection of fine neckties and hats. He was well known for his collection of baseball caps and his iconic fedora during the colder months. He was also an avid gardener. Leo nurtured everything he planted, from vibrant flowers to hearty vegetables, with the same care, attention, and generosity that he exemplified in every task he undertook.

For almost 40 years, Leo was a dedicated officer in the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). He served as a leader in the Northeastern Seaboard District, stretching from Canada to Virginia, and as a Head Deacon in the Local Congregations of Elizabeth and Bergen, NJ. A consummate planner, Leo was at the forefront of organizing special events for the District since the 1990s and throughout his life.

He never wavered in the performance of his Church duties and raised his children to likewise take up the mantle of spiritual service and leadership. It is this legacy of diligent faith that we honor today and in the days to come.

A celebration of Leo's life will be held on Thursday and Friday, November 13th & 14th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Frech-McKnight Funeral Home, 161 Washington Avenue, Dumont, NJ. Leo will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
