Leo Goodman Obituary

Leo M. Goodman, Jr.

June 20, 1933 - October 21, 2025

Leo Milton Goodman, Jr., 92, passed into eternal peace and glory on October 21, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 20, 1933, in Forest Hills, Pa., he was the son of the late Leo and Thelma Goodman. Known for hitch-hiking down to Virginia Beach to spend summers with his Grandma and Grandpap Brawley - among slews of cousins - Lee had various summer jobs including driving around selling watermelons at the age of 14 and barking while selling concessions to young military men and their girls on the beach. Being a "bit" ornery, his parents sent him to Saint Vincent Prep School, where Lee's life-enduring faith took hold.

Lee attended California State Teachers College where he met his dearest, Connie, in the Newman Club when she was only a freshman. By the end of that year, Lee knew she was the one; he had her famous potato salad at the Newman Club Picnic and invited her to the Glee Club Dinner Dance, the first of many dances together including the ones they had every night of their marriage before bedtime.

Although Lee wanted to propose to her when she was a junior, Connie's parents told Lee he had to wait because she had to finish college. His patience persevered even after Connie promised she would not only graduate but teach for two years before getting married. They began their 66-year sacramental marriage on July 4, 1959.

Lee taught in the Carlisle School District as an industrial arts teacher, and then became a guidance counselor at the Sr. High School for the second half of his career after getting Masters degrees in both Reading and Counseling.

Lee was a founding member of the Carlindian Barbershop Chorus and sang as a tenor for 25 years. He served on the Safe Harbor Board for six years and on the Diocese of Harrisburg Financial Advisory Board for 16 years. As a longtime member of Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Lee volunteered in many capacities: Extraordinary Minister of Communion for both Masses and the Saint Luke's ministry to nursing homes and the hospital, member of two Saint Patrick Building Committees, and Life Teen/Revival Music Ministry.

His greatest source of joy was the family Connie and Lee created through God's goodness and love: Joe Goodman (Terri) of Carlisle; Colleen Billone (Steve) of Coatesville; Rev. Leo Goodman, III, of Harrisburg; Tom Goodman (Debra) of Newport News, Virginia; Peggy Durbin (Ken) of Carlisle; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Lee was predeceased by his sister, Babette Cullen; daughter-in-law, Barbara Goodman; and niece, Angelique Yeley.

Lee's example of tender devotion for his wife, love of his family, and faith in our Heavenly Father are a lasting legacy for all who knew him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m., Monday, October 27, 2025, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, Pa. 17015, with a visitation starting at 10 a.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church at the above address or St. Margaret Mary Alacoque Catholic Church, 2800 Paxton Church Road, Harrisburg, Pa. 17110.
