Mary Leola Delatte Hernandez passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at the age of 94. A native of Whitehall, Louisiana, and resident of Gonzales, Leola was born on November 1, 1931 to parents Mary and Demas Delatte.
She is survived by her children Linda Leader and John Hernandez (Windy), daughter-in-law Debi Hernandez Chiasson, grandchildren Tracy Leader Couvillion (Marc), Travis Leader (Abbie), Cody Leader (Catherine), Brandy Hernandez Hudson (Michael), Fallon Hernandez Rothman (Kevin), Lauren Hernandez Luce (Jeff), Allen Hernandez (Laura), Daniel Hernandez (Adam), and Collin Hernandez (Mallory), thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Leola is preceded in death by her parents Demas and Mary Dupuy Delatte, husband Burlin Hernandez, son Wayne Hernandez, son-in-law Kirby “Beanie” Leader, and siblings Dewey Delatte, Herbert Delatte, Sr., Rowina Delatte Vicknair, and Eunice Delatte Gautreau.
Leola worked as a switchboard operator at Ascension Credit Union and various regional car dealerships. Affectionately known as “Ms. Lee,” she was a volunteer in the grandparent program at several Ascension Parish primary schools.
Services will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in St. Amant. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, with mass to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Whitehall Community Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Travis Leader, Cody Leader, Marc Couvillion, Allen Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, and Collin Hernandez.
