Wilson Miller Funeral Home, Inc. - MidlandLeon Edward Balwinski, aged 91, passed away on November 5, 2025, in Midland, where he was born on March 25, 1934 to the late Stanley and Pauline Balwinski. Leon worked as a Chemical Engineer at Dow, where he retired after a dedicated career. He was a member of St. Brigid of Kildare Catholic Church for some years.
On September 14, 1963, Leon married the former JoAnn Schrinel and after 50 years of marriage, she passed in 2013. He often remarked that the best 50 years of his life were spent with his beloved wife, JoAnn.
Known for his caring, friendly, and witty personality, Leon was a cherished figure within his community and family. He enjoyed watching sports and was a passionate Detroit Lions fan. His hobbies included playing board games, with "Sorry" being a favorite, which he played with his granddaughter, Elizabeth. He also made it a point to watch Elizabeth perform in band. Leon loved waterskiing, camping in his RV in Gladwin during the summers with his wife, eating vanilla ice cream, and was a regular at local eateries like Bob Evans and Krzysiak's. He also enjoyed the companionship of his granddaughter, Elizabeth’s three pets, Duke, Buttercup, and Neeko. Leon will be remembered for his warm heart, joyful spirit, witty personality, and the profound impact he had on those around him.
He is survived by his daughters, Barb Morse, Tina Russell, Sue Wark, and Vicky Balwinski; many grandchildren, including Elizabeth Chomistek; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He also considered Randy (Karen Winchester) Chomistek as his son, who spent years taking care of him. In addition to his parents and wife, Leon was preceded in death by his sister.
Leon’s life will be honored in a service held at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at Wilson MILLER Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Saturday from 12:00pm to the time of service. A private burial will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to his granddaughter, c/o Elizabeth Chomistek.
