Leon L. Coplin of Groves passed away on September 5, 2012 at his home, where he was a longtime resident. He was 90 years old. He was born in 1921 in Burkeville, TX to Tom and Elmira Coplin. He retired from the Texaco Refinery of Port Arthur in 1983 after 37 years, where he was a welder. Mr. Coplin was a World War II Army veteran, where he served in the Big Red One under George Patton. He was in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily, on Omaha Beach on D-Day, the liberation of Paris and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a proud American. Mr. Coplin is survived by two daughters, Lavenia Elmore (husband Buddy) of Port Neches and Helen Lebleu (husband Scotty) of Lafayette, LA; two sons, Lennard Coplin (wife Boots) of Austin and Marlon Coplin (wife Pam) of Cedar Park, TX. , also survived by one sister, Maggie Yates of Vidor. He was proud of his 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Gussie; also two brothers, T.J. and Slim, and two sisters, Pauline and Sue; and grandson, Justin. Mr. Coplin, in his later years, enjoyed the fellowship and meals with friends at the Senior Citizen Center of Groves. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves with Reverend John Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Sycamore Cemetery in Burkeville, Texas. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
