Funeral service for Leon Crawford, age 98, of Como, Texas, will be at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Bolton and B.J. Teer officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will follow the service at Forest Academy Cemetery with the Hopkins County Military Coalition serving as pallbearers. Mr. Crawford passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
Leon was born to Robert L. and Annie Lee (Prudhomme) Crawford on May 12, 1925 in Mansfield, Louisiana. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served during WW II as a Sea Bee. He married Sue (Gulledge) Crawford in 1975 in Houston, Texas. He retired from Sysco Food Service where he had worked as a salesman. He was a proud member of Greenpond Baptist Church where he taught men's Sunday school classes and sang in the choir. During his free time, he loved to be outdoors fishing and gardening. He volunteered and served on the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Crawford; son, Gary Crawford and wife, Becky of Burnett, Texas; daughters, Roxanne Hayes and partner, Breck Beckham of Shreveport, Louisiana,Sheila Vascocu and husband, Emmitt of Shreveport, Louisiana, Holly Huffman of Sulphur Springs, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mr. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Annie Crawford; grandson Jason Crawford; four brothers and three sisters.
