Leon Mitchell Curry

Leon M. Curry Sr., age 85, of Canton, passed away Saturday March 25, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Hospital. He was born in Canton on August 18, 1937, to the late John W. Curry and the late Blanche (Eford) Curry.
Leon attended McKinley High School and then entered the Navy, serving in the Korean War. He married Willa Faye Lopes, and two children were born of this union, the late Leon M. Curry II and Rhonda (Ira) Bachelor.
He was a member of Faith United Christian Church, serving as Board member, and president and director of the choir.
He was known for singing, and loved to perform with his nephew John A. Jenkins and dear friend Kevin Mitchell and their band, "The Board of Directors". He was also honored to sing for the "Mayor's Breakfast". He loved traveling with his wife, and sharing the same birthday with his daughter.
In addition to his parents and son, Leon was preceded in death by seven siblings, including John (Bootsie) Curry, and his step-mother, Helen Curry Freeman, who raised him.
He is survived by his wife, Willa F. Curry, daughter, Rhonda (Ira) Bachelor, siblings, James (Helen) Curry, Darlene (Aaron) Sims, Dorothy Russelle, Nadine (Joseph) Frye, and Brenda Evans, two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as nephews and nieces, and a host of family and friends.
The family of Leon Curry Sr. wishes to thank each of you for the many expressions of love, prayers, concerns and kindness shown to them during this time of bereavement.
Public Viewing will be held Friday, March 31, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Faith United Christian Church 3411 Richmond Ave NE Canton, OH 44705 with funeral service at 12:00 PM, Pastor Chad Anderson Officiating. Interment following at Forest Hill Cemetery 4414 Cleveland AVE NW Canton, OH 44709.
