Leon Elwood Douglas, age 85, of Warsaw, passed away on January 4, 2026.
Born on March 5, 1940 in Northumberland County, Virginia, Leon was the son of the late Leon Edward Douglas and the late Homer Marie Pinkard Douglas.
Leon was a gifted mechanic who could fix just about anything. He proudly dedicated many years of service to Northern Neck Electric Cooperative where his skill, intelligence, and work ethic earned him the respect of coworkers and friends. He also honorably served in the Army Reserves, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of responsibility and service to others. Leon was recruited as a professional baseball player for the Milwaukee Braves and had the rare opportunity to play all over the country. Baseball remained as one of his great loves throughout his life-whether he was playing the game, watching it, or sharing stories from his time on the field.
Leon married the love of his life, Laura Allene Lewis Douglas, and together they shared a deep and enduring bond. They were devoted to one another and raised three children together in the Northern Neck, building a life rooted in love, hard work, and family. Leon was always attentive to Laura, caring for her with quiet devotion and unwavering love.
A man of remarkable intelligence and creativity, Leon was always inventing new ways to do things more efficiently. His mind never stopped working, and his hands were rarely still. Just as importantly, Leon was devoted to helping others, never hesitating to lend his time and knowledge to anyone in need. Leon enjoyed hunting, cherished time spent outdoors, and most of all, loved people. He had a gift for friendship and was known by many, leaving behind countless stories, laughter, and memories. Above all else, Leon loved his family more than anything in the world, and his presence was a constant source of strength and comfort.
Leon is survived by his beloved wife, Laura; his children, Leon "Lee" Elwood Douglas, Jr. of Chantilly, Julie Douglas Hayes (Bobby) of Warsaw, and Shannon Douglas DeShazo (Will) of Warsaw; grandchildren, Copeland, Sydney (Alex), and Luke; and so many close friends.
