LEONA KOSIOREK KANIA
Leona Kosiorek Kania, 96, of Greene Township, passed away, Saturday, November 22, 2025. She was born in Erie on May 7, 2029, a daughter to the late Leo and Hedwig Kalista Kosiorek.
Leona was a member of St. Boniface Church, and was always quick with a smile. She enjoyed many people and activities. In her day, she was an accomplished dancer and especially loved doing the brisk and fancy Polka with her husband, Matthew. Hobbies were many and varied, including antique collecting, flower gardening and reading. She had a long life, much different from most folks today. She married at age nineteen and moved to an active and large dairy farm, where she lived and worked in the same house for seventy-seven years. Leona was an exceptional cook and baker. She had a fine eye for art and aesthetics and especially enjoyed a dramatic sunset. She was blessed with good health, though she would probably not have admitted it, and was active until quite recently. All that were acquainted with her, knew her as a great conversationalist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Matthew (Mickey) Kania; two brothers, Donald and Robert Kosiorek, and one sister, Silvia Berdis.
Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Lester (Paul) of Delta, Ohio; one son, Michael Kania (Kathie) of Afton, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Matthew Trimble (Lisa), Stacy Farrell (Richard), Breton Kania (Almir), Kristin Kania (Alex); three great grandchildren, Morgan Farrell, Colton Trimble, and Brayden Trimble; two brothers, Stanley Kosiorek, and John Kosiorek (Marty), both of Erie; two sisters, Agnes Cermak and Roseann Sorge, both of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Monday, December 1st, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a future date in Mount of Olives cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Boniface Church, 9367 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16509.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, 16504.
