Leona J. Sobczak

Leona J. "Aunt Lee" Sobczak, 96, of East Vandergrift, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, in Pleasant Ridge Nursing Home Leechburg. Born June 29, 1929, in East Vandergrift, she was a daughter of the late John and Magdalena (Panko) Sobczak. Leona was a 1947 graduate of Vandergrift High School. She lived in East Vandergrift all of her life. She worked as a cashier for Thorofare & Phar-Mor for 35 years before retiring in 1994. She was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Leona was known as the "fun" aunt. She loved to travel and dance and enjoyed trips with her family to amusement parks and to Crooked Creek. In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Wojton; her brother, John Wojton; her sister-in-law, Betty Wojton; and her nephew, Mark Wojton. Leona is survived by her nephew, Richard (Cindy) Wojton of Irwin; her great-nephew, Christopher (Michael) Wojton of New York, NY; her great-niece, Taylor (Matt) Panebianco of Hempfield Township; her great-great-niece, Eva; and her great-great-nephews, Dino and Theo. Leona was affectionately known as "Aunt Lee" to family and friends. Family and friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, in BRADY-CURRAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES INC., 429 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift. Parting prayers of transfer will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2025, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 420 McKinley Ave., East Vandergrift.
