Leona Zelnis Obituary
years. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years Casimer Zelnis, and
her cherished daughter Ann Marie. Leona is survived by her son Charles and his
wife Phyllis, four grandchildren Suzanne, Teresa, Joseph and Michael, two great
grandchildren Ava and Jeremiah ("JJ"), and nephew Edward Zelnis.
Leona had an irrepressible joy for living, and devoted her life to her faith, family
and church service. A longtime resident of Evergreen Park, IL, Leona served in
numerous leadership and ministry roles at St. Bernadette Parish and Elementary
School. Leona attended daily mass, and frequently offered rides to church for
elderly friends and neighbors. In her later years Leona moved to Virginia to be
closer to her family, and enjoyed celebrating holidays, birthdays and numerous
activities with them. Leona was deeply loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Funeral Mass will be live streamed on the Holy Spirit Church website at https://holyspiritchurch.us
Interment will be at St. Casimir's Catholic Cemetery, 4401 W.111th Street, Chicago, IL 60655 in early January 2026- exact date and time TBD.
