Leonard Alt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 6, 2026.
Leonard (Lenny) T. Alt, age 76, of West Allis, WI was a devout and kind servant with a pure heart of gold. He went home to be with God on Friday January 2, 2026. Lenny was born on October 27, 1949, in Cuba City, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late Edward George Alt and Imelda Mary (Banfield) Alt. Leonard graduated from Shullsburg High School and honorably served two years in the United States Marine Corps as a rifleman, attaining the rank of E-3. His service to his country was marked by dedication and courage, and he remained a devoted veteran throughout his life.

Leonard was a multi-talented individual who dedicated his life to creative expression, community involvement, and faith. After serving in the military, he became an accomplished artist, notably creating drawings for United States Marine Corps posters and portraits.

Driven by his deep Catholic faith, which was profoundly influenced by trips to Medugorje in the late 1980s, Leonard was "given the gift of writing." He became an avid writer of Catholic apologetics, producing over 300 articles that were primarily shared on his website and with his followers on Facebook .

Beyond his written work, Leonard was a passionate dancer and teacher, sharing his love for ballroom dancing and Hop Polka with countless people for over 30 years. He was an esteemed dance lead and instructor throughout the Milwaukee area and the entire state of Wisconsin.

His commitment to cultural preservation was also evident through his long-standing memberships in organizations like the Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress (DANK) and the Wisconsin Polka Boosters, where he actively supported the German and Polish cultural dances and community fellowship.

Throughout his life, Leonard was supported and cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by siblings Michael (Sandy) Alt, Shirley (Bob) Lex, Pat Wiegel, a brother-in-law Kenny Brecht and many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by siblings Eve Brecht, Eleanor (Bill) Sanders, and brothers-in-law Carl Wiegel, Mary (Jack) Brady, Joe Alt, and Patrick Alt.

Leonard never married, yet he leaves behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and patriotism that his family and friends will always remember.

Leonard Thomas Alt's services will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Saint Mary's Visitation Catholic Church in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Interment: Burial will take place at St. Matthews Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

In place of flowers, gifts may be directed to Saint Mary's Visitation Parish of Elm Grove or DANK Milwaukee (Deutsch Amerikanischer National Kongress)

R I P Lenny, thank you for leading me and my wife to a greater understanding and love for our Savior Jesus Christ! I cherish the times we spent teaching Apologetics at St John Knty, or praying together with the prayer group or at Adoration! Again RIP! From Dennis and June Pluskota!
