Leonard Leeroy Aplet

A memorial service will be held for Leonard Leeroy Aplet, 75, of Coos Bay, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, 405 Elrod Ave., Coos Bay. Cremation rites have been held under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary. A reception will follow at the former Charleston School cafeteria in Charleston.

Leonard was born Dec. 24, 1933, at Stayton, the son of Millard Samuel and Ethel Mae (Fox) Aplet. He died July 23, 2009, at Coos Bay.

Leonard was raised and educated in Stayton and served a tour of duty in the U.S. Army. He made his home and worked in Ukiah, Calif., before moving to Coos Bay in 1960. He worked as a millwright at Coos Head and Al Pierce as a gypo logger, and he owned and operated a logging truck for many years until retiring. He was married to Alice Jane Henderson in 1987 in Reno, Nev.

Leonard enjoyed hunting, spending time with friends and family and he was especially fond of his little dog.

He is survived by his wife, Alice J. Aplet of Coos Bay; sons, Leonard "Dutch" and Brenda Aplet Jr. of Scappoose and Patrick L. Henderson of Willamina; daughters, Rosie and David Mack of Stayton, Sherry and Mark Stuckart of Albany, Wanda and Dale Timmons of Battle Ground, Wash., Karen Rice and William Harris of Coos Bay, Angela Peyton of Elm Dale, Kan., and Christine Henderson of Salem; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Roy S. Aplet; a daughter, Kathleen M. Smithies; a brother; and two sisters.
