Leonard was very special to me and more importantly to my father. My dad, Roger Stumm was a young boy from a poor household in Portland and Brother Leonard became his mentor.
One of dad's most moving memories of Leonard was that he helped him buy his very first bicycle! I believe that he was around 10 years old.
They remained in contact until my father's death in May of 2000. My parents Rog and Dot visited Leonard and Anita on their last road trip to Oregon a year or two prior.
I was always grateful for Leonard's relationship with my dad and at some point several years ago I began to phone him and send birthday cards. He and my dad had birthdays very close to each other, dad's was 10/8/33. He was such a gentleman, told me stories about my father and my grandfather, Donald Stumm. In fact he told he still had a razor that had been my grandfathers. I took that to mean that they had a fairly close relationship too.
It took me awhile to find this info online and I had to assume that he was no longer with us. Well I do miss Leonard, God Bless this very special man.
