Leonard A. Duffy

Leonard A. Duffy of Needham, died on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham. He was 91 years old. Born in Boston, Mr. Duffy grew up in Roxbury. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army. During his service in World War II, Private Duffy and his comrades at Company B earned the Bronze Star Medal of Achievement during a 5-day siege at Hill 721 by holding their positions under continuous assault by the enemy. He also received the Purple Heart for wounds inflicted during the same battle. He was also very proud of his Combat Infantry Badge which made the world aware that he served his time in combat. He was a longtime member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He was the former supervisor of the Housekeeping Department at Massachusetts General Hospital and retired from the Polaroid Corporation in Norwood as the Inventory Control Manager. He was the beloved husband of the late Geraldine A. "Gerry" (Hartford) Duffy and the loving father of Richard A. and his wife Daissy of Falmouth, Marilyn D. Osborne of Falmouth, Steven R. and his wife Wendy Christison of No Easton, Paul V. and his wife Alba Duffy of Wareham and Kevin J. and his wife Michelle Duffy of Milford. Dear grandfather of John F. Osborne III and his wife Linnea, Jeffrey P. Osborne and his wife Krista and Kyle Duffy. Great grandfather of Eladia Osborne. A funeral service will be held in the Eaton Funeral, 1351 Highland Ave Needham, on Saturday March 11th at 11:30 am. Visiting hours will be held Saturday morning from 10:30-11:30 am prior to the. Service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in West Roxbury. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis TN, 38101-9908.
