It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Leonard Moody Harris, Jr., a devoted family man, proud military veteran, and a beloved member of his community. Leonard passed away peacefully on November 24, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones.
Born on January 2, 1948, in Arkansas, Leonard grew up with a deep sense of duty and service. He answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corp, where he served in the Vietnam War. Major Leonard Harris served his country for 30 years. His military career exemplified his unwavering dedication, courage, and love for his country.
After completing service, Leonard transitioned to civilian life where he and his wife opened a very successful automotive repair business, known today as Lenny’s Automotive.
Leonard will be remembered as a man of integrity, wisdom, and kindness. He was a devoted husband of 51 years to Evelinda Harris, a loving father to Michelle (Andrew), Christopher (Nicole), Lenny, and Sean and a proud grandfather to Siena, Marcus, Gabriel, Connor, Liam, Jeff, and Kayla, and his great-grandchildren.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Agnes and his brother, Gary. Leonard is survived by his siblings Faye, Carry, Daniel, and Annie, as well as a number of nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends and comrades who will forever honor his memory.
Friends are invited to join the family for visitation and services at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS 39503. Visitations will be held on Wednesday, December 4, and Thursday, December 5, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. both nights.
Then on Friday, December 6, visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Mr. Harris will then be laid to rest with military honors at 2:30 p.m. at Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
Leonard lived a life of purpose, service, and love. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know him.
