Leonard Carlos "John" Herrick

Leonard "John" Carlos Herrick, 81, of Machias, ME., passed quietly after a brief period of declining health surrounded by the love of his family at Select Specialty Hospital in Rochelle Park, NJ., on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
He was born a son to the late Florence (Morse) and Carl Herrick on December 27, 1941, in West Townshend, VT. He attended high school until tenth grade and later obtained his GED in 1981.
On September 10, 1961, Leonard exchanged vows with Linda (Grant). They were married in a simple service surrounded by family and friends. The Herrick's had been married for 54 years until Linda's passing.
John was self-employed as a handyman until he retired in 2011.
Leonard had many interests and loved to be outdoors in nature. He enjoyed wood burning, fishing, studying genealogy, and computers.
Mr. Herrick is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Wyckoff and her husband, David of Brattleboro, VT., Sherri Spittle of North Conway, NH. and Shelley Cloutier and her husband, John of Danbury, CT. He is also survived by his sister Joyce Aldrich of Keene, NH. As well as his friend and companion Ella Hodgdon of Machias, ME. Along with 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his daughter Susan Herrick Bills and his siblings George Herrick, Arlene Bernard, Midred Chase and Wallace Herrick.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 am in the family lot in Round Hill Cemetery, 90 Round Hill Road West Townshend, VT. 05359.
