Leonard P. Hoyt, of Reading, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 93 years of age.
Known to some as Lenny and to others as Babe, Leonard Paul Hoyt was a man of many remarkable talents and a heart overflowing with love. He was a vibrant spirit whose passion for life left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lenny was a gifted pianist from an early age. Music flowed through him enchanting audiences across Massachusetts at beloved venues, such as the Andover Inn and Bear Hill Country Club, among many others. His endless curiosity led him beyond performance - he built a piano tuning and repair business, applying the same passion and precision to his craft as he did to his playing. Each note he tuned reflected his meticulous attention to detail and deep love for the instrument.
A true renaissance man, Lenny had a special love for technology and was always ahead of the curve - often the first on the block with the newest gadget or innovation in hand. His curiosity and joy for life were infectious.
With his wife, Pat, by his side as his trusted business manager, he ran a videography business, capturing cherished memories at weddings for countless clients. He was also an avid amateur photographer, his camera rarely out of reach. His passion for innovation and visual storytelling was matched only by his joy in mastering each new tool and technique.
Before his creative pursuits, Babe served proudly in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, from 1951 to 1953. Following his military service, he joined the Reading Police Department, where he served his community with dedication and integrity for over 20 years as a patrolman and detective until his retirement in 1978.
Leonard was blessed to share his life with two women whom he truly loved. His first wife, Patricia, with whom he built a beautiful family and raised eight children passed away in 1974. Their life together was filled with music, laughter, and devotion. His second wife, also named Patricia, and her two children brought a new chapter of love and deep family connection into Leonard’s life.
Above all, Babe Hoyt was a family man. He cherished his wife, ten children, ten wonderful spouses/partners of his children, 28 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren. He had a remarkable ability to connect personally with each grandchild, always knowing a little something special about them - a shared interest, a favorite treat, or an inside joke, making each one feel uniquely seen and loved. His warmth made every person in the room feel like the most important one there.
Lenny loved life. He loved music, laughter, ice cream, and the New York Yankees. But most of all, he loved his family, and his presence in their lives was a gift beyond measure. Babe lived a life overflowing with talent, love, and joy. He leaves behind a legacy not only of creativity and passion, but of kindness, connection, and unconditional love.
Leonard is the beloved husband of Patricia (Leonard) Hoyt of Arlington, MA. He is the cherished father of Leonard Hoyt Jr. and his wife Cathy, Paula Pitcher and her husband David, Kevin Hoyt and his wife Nancy, John Hoyt and his partner Helena Moniz, Lynda D'Angelo and her partner Mike Lambert, Russell Hoyt and his partner Stacey Wooster, Eileen Campbell and her husband Mark, Michael Murphy and his wife Denise, Cindy Glynn and her husband Bobby, and Mary Busa and her husband Mark.

He was the cherished youngest sibling of seven, all of whom predeceased him: Carl Hoyt, Jr. and his late wife Dorothy; Richard Hoyt and his late wife Barbara; Brendan Hoyt and his surviving wife Sally Hoyt of Reading; Ruth Fennelly and her late husband George; Patty Hoyt; and Quentin Hoyt and his late wife Barbara.
