Leonard O. Hurle, a cherished soul whose life journey began on June 2, 1930, in the bustling city of Chicago, Illinois, completed his earthly mission on August 31, 2025, in the serene town of Grand Ledge, Michigan. His departure was as gentle as his nature, passing on from natural causes, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He was a man of profound faith and an embodiment of Christian values, living a life that mirrored the love and compassion of Christ.

Leonard's legacy is one marked by his gentle spirit, loving heart, and a sense of humor that brought joy to all who knew him. His laughter was a balm, his presence a haven, and his life a testament to the power of kindness. Leonard's journey was one filled with love and partnership.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Dorothy, who passed in 1988, and Judy, who joined the angels in 2024. Also preceding him were stepdaughter, Martha (Tom) Johnson, step son-in-law, Norm Shoemaker and grandson, Bobby Johnson. Their memories remained etched in his heart, their love a guiding light in his life. Blessed with a loving family, Leonard's memory will be cherished by his stepchildren, Bob (Kay) Underwood, Barry (Brenda) Underwood, Phyllis (Harry) Sponsellor, and Mary Shoemaker, also he had numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren who cherished any time spent with him. Each of them was a precious thread in the beautiful tapestry of his life, and he was a father figure who provided them with wisdom, support, and unconditional love.

Leonard was a man of the earth, with a passion for farming that was evident to all who visited his beloved hog farm. It was more than a profession; it was a place where memories were cultivated, where the simplicity of life was celebrated, and where the fruits of hard work could be seen in the bounty he provided. The farm was a reflection of Leonard's soul, a place of growth, nurturing, and abundance. Travel was another of Leonard's joys, a way to embrace the vastness of God's creation. He ventured across the United States and beyond, exploring the wonders of the world and creating a tapestry of experiences. Germany held a special place in his heart, where he loved to take his loved ones, sharing with them the chapters of his life written there. Music filled Leonard's world with harmony and joy, a reflection of the melodies that played in his heart. Whether in the stillness of the morning or the quiet of the evening, his life was a symphony of love and faith, each note a testament to the beauty he saw in the world.

Let us remember Leonard O. Hurle as a beacon of love, an example of how to live a life imbued with purpose, laughter, and unwavering faith. His was a life well-lived, a journey completed with grace, and a story that will continue to inspire.

Visitation will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge, MI, Sunday September 7th at 1:00pm to 2:00pm. Funeral Liturgy will begin at 2:00pm with Deacon Bauer presiding. Interment will follow at a later date.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us carry forward the light he shone so brightly, living our lives with the same gentleness, love, and humor that he so effortlessly embodied. Leonard's spirit will forever dance in the hearts of those he touched, a gentle reminder of the beauty of a life well-loved. He will be missed by all who deeply loved him.
