Leonard Craig Kerbs, 71, passed away on January 23, 2026, in
Brush, Colorado. He was born on August 22, 1954, in
Great Bend, Kansas to Leonard and Jeslyn Kerbs. Craig grew up in Otis, Kansas, where he developed the strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, and straightforward nature that would become his lifelong trademarks.
Craig earned his bachelor's degree from Fort Hays State University. During his college years, he competed in rodeo-a passion that reflected his adventurous spirit and deep connection to western life. In 1986, he met the love of his life, Joyce Kerbs. The two were married on August 13, 1988, at the United Methodist Church in
Fort Morgan, Colorado, beginning a devoted partnership that spanned nearly four decades.
Professionally, Craig worked as a cattle consultant, a career he took great pride in until his retirement in 2022. His dedication to doing things the right way-never the easy way-earned him deep respect among colleagues and clients alike.
Craig was a member of the community throughout his life. He belonged to the Elks Club and the United Methodist Church in Fort Morgan. He also served as a Boy Scout leader with Pack 22 for 10 years, helping to guide and mentor young people with the same integrity and enthusiasm he brought to every part of his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Craig loved hunting, fishing, and camping. Some of his happiest days were spent in the field with his hunting dogs by his side. He was known for his memorable catchphrases, sharp sarcasm, and a sense of humor that left an impression on everyone around him.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Bob Bensen; father in law, Bennie Weber; and mother in law, Vickie O'Leary.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Kerbs; children Jeremy (Brandie) Kerbs and Lacey (Tyson) Smith; and grandchildren Ivy Kerbs, Ivan Kerbs, and Talon Smith. He is also survived by his siblings, Kent Kerbs and Lisa (Bruce) Barney; his uncle, Charles "Buddy" (Judy) Tabler; his aunt, Cheryl Kring; and his mother in law, Kathy Weber.
A Visitation will be held Friday, January 30, 2026 from 4 – 6PM at Heer Mortuary. A Funeral service will be held Saturday, January 31 at 10 AM at Fort Morgan United Methodist Church.
