Leonard Kopecky, 81, of
Solon, Iowa passed away on February 17, 2026, after a brief illness at St. Luke's Hospital in
Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 31, 1944, to Charles and Lydia (Behlke) Kopecky, and grew up in
Euclid, Minnesota, where he developed the values of hard work, humility, and kindness that shaped his life.
Len graduated from the Northwest School of Education in 1962 and went on to earn a degree from the North Dakota State School of Science, reflecting his dedication to learning and personal growth. He proudly served in the United States National Guard for over six years.
On November 6, 1965, Len married Susan Lyngholm, beginning a partnership marked by devotion, resilience, and happiness. Together, they raised their family in Blairstown, Iowa, creating a warm and loving home. Later, they built a house on a wooded six acre lot outside of Solon, a peaceful place where they enjoyed nature and welcomed family and friends. One of their greatest joys was traveling together in their RV, exploring new places and enjoying the freedom of the open road. They eventually purchased a park model home in Gold Canyon, Arizona, where they spent their winters surrounded by sunshine, friends, and a community they cherished.
In April 1967, Len began his long career at Rockwell Collins, where he worked until his retirement in May 2000. After retiring, he continued to stay active by delivering auto parts part time, enjoying the work and the people he met along the way. Over 33 years, he earned the respect of colleagues through his reliability, skill, and steady commitment to excellence.
Len was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Michelle Holm of
Solon, IA, and his son and daughter-in-law, Matt and Tracey Kopecky of
Holmen, WI, His greatest joy came from watching his family grow, and he treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren: Taylor (Travis) Johnson of
Somerset, WI, Caitlin (Derek) Hartleip of
La Crosse, WI, Carson Kopecky of
La Crosse, WI, Morgan Holm of
Solon, IA, and Tae Holm of
Solon, IA. He was also blessed with a great granddaughter, Ava Johnson, who brought him tremendous joy. Leonard especially loved spending time with his family and found joy in attending his grandchildren's sporting events, concerts, and musical performances. Being present for their milestones brought him immense pride and happiness.
Outside of work and family, Leonard found joy in the things that sparked his curiosity and brought him comfort. He was a loyal fan of the Minnesota Vikings, cheered for the Iowa Hawkeyes, and loved following NASCAR, especially rooting for Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed working with computers and electronics, and took great satisfaction in converting old reel films to CDs, preserving memories for others with patience and care.
Len was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lydia Kopecky, and by his beloved wife, Susan.
Per Len's wishes, he will be cremated, and a private family gathering will be held to honor his life. Memorials may be directed to the family. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family with arrangements.
Throughout his 81 years, Len touched countless lives with his generosity, selflessness, and quiet strength. He will be remembered for the calm steadiness he offered others, the stories he shared, and the example he set through a life lived with integrity and heart. His memory will remain a blessing to all who loved him.
