Leonard Calvin Shubrooks

On February 17, 2018, Leonard Calvin Shubrooks, 75 of St. Inigoes, MD, a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend departed his earthly life at Washington Adventist Health Center, Takoma Park, MD, after a lengthy illness. Leonard was born on December 31, 1942 in Baltimore, MD to the late Samuel Shubrooks and Juliet Milburn-Bennett. For more than 56 years he was blissfully joined in holy matrimony to the late Joan Marilyn Hewlett. From that union, seven beautiful children were born whom they raised together until Joan's departure from this heavenly earth. During his youth, he attended public schools in St. Mary’s County, Maryland and learned the trade of a Bricklayer. Leonard was baptized at Mount Zion United Methodist Church located in St. Inigoes, MD, where he was always willing to volunteer his service.

Leonard was gifted as a builder. He worked throughout his life as a bricklayer and was employed at Lacey Construction and W.M. Davis Construction where he worked until he retired. Leonard also worked as an oysterman and as a landscaper at a local nursery. His past-times included, hanging out at local business establishments, playing the lottery, farming, planting vegetable gardens, and sharing his handyman skills and guidance on building projects. Leonard was also a car enthusiast and loved cruising in his Chevrolet Corvette. Maintaining his cheerful, caring and generous composure, he took great pleasure in giving to anyone who needed a helping hand.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Joan Shubrooks; sisters, Anna Fenwick, Lucy Lee and Catherine Chisley; four brothers, Joseph Smith, Clarence Shubrooks, Robert Shubrooks and James Shubrooks and one granddaughter, Colleen Shubrooks.

Leonard leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Jacqueline Shubrooks, of Lexington Park, MD, Janet Shubrooks, of St. Inigoes, MD and Sheila Miles, of Lexington Park, MD; four sons, Calvin Shubrooks (Patricia), of Hughesville, MD, Allen Shubrooks of St. Inigoes, MD, Wayne Shubrooks, of St. Inigoes, MD and Garry Shubrooks, of St. Inigoes, MD. Leonard leaves behind fifteen grandchildren and nine great grand-children. He also leaves behind his special niece and sidekick, Annette Dickens; special friends, George William Milburn, Joseph Milburn, John Bush and Gary Buck; sisters-in-law, Idolia Shubrooks, Beverly White and Vanessa White and three brothers-in-law, Raymond White, Nathaniel White and Lewis White and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends will unite on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 for visitation at 10 am until time of service at 11 am at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 17472 Mt. Zion Church Road, St. Inigoes, MD 20684. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
