Leonard Steiner Obituary

Dr. Leonard E. Steiner

July 13, 1930 - January 8, 2026

Coral Gables, Florida - Dr. Leonard Edward Steiner died peacefully in his sleep on January 8, 2026. For 95 years, he lived a full and rewarding life. He had a strong moral compass and set a wonderful example for everyone he met, especially his three children and their spouses, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Following his medical training and service time as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy in Corpus Christi, TX, Lenny continued his successful medical practice in Miami. Over the course of his career, he led a 10-person team of anesthesiologists at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and Larkin General Hospital, where he set up respiratory therapy departments. As an anesthesiologist, his team was like his second family.

As an avid horologist, he was President of the Miami branch of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was admired for his generous sharing of knowledge and expertise, something that was evident to anyone who was lucky enough to know him. He was well-known for his storytelling, as he loved to share parts of his life with those around him. When he wasn't with his wife, Penny, of 65 years, you could find him reading and smoking a cigar, doing crosswords, watching Miami football, fishing, or just peacefully overlooking the water. He had the gift of contentment. He loved his life and his family-how lucky can you get? He will be greatly missed by everybody whose lives he touched.

Our most recent visit in person was at Uncle Lenny´s grandniece Libbie´s wedding. Lenny and Penny were on the dance floor dancing like 20- 30 somethings who joined them! Both over 90!! He always took an interest in whatever we were doing, asking insightful questions and sharing relevant stories from his past. Always with a calm, kind, supportive, loving demeanor. We never saw Lenny unhappy, rather always, always joyful about life! Lenny took great interest in Bob´s career as a physician scientist and out to us when he saw Bob in the UW-Madison Alumni magazine. We all have wonderful memories of Uncle Lenny that will make us smile forever. God bless you, Uncle Lenny!
