Leonard L. Thayer

Leonard L. Thayer passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at Plumas District Hospital April 24, 2008, at the age of 81. Leonard was born in Quincy June 17, 1926 to Leonard H. and Luella (Harris) Thayer. He graduated from Quincy High School, Class of 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific. Leonard returned to attend UC Berkeley and later the College of Mortuary Science in San Francisco. After working at Clarke, Booth and Yardley Funeral Home in Sacramento, Leonard returned to Quincy to follow in his father's footsteps and work for the Quincy Railroad. He retired in 1977. From 1977 until 1988, he owned and operated the Quincy Liquor Lodge. Leonard was an active member in the Quincy Elks Lodge until his death. He served as Exalted Ruler in 1961-62. He was also a member of the Lions Club, ECV and the American Legion. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Pat, one son, two daughters and four grandchildren who will miss him dearly. At Leonard's request, no services will be held following cremation.
