Leonard Earl Welch Sr.

Leonard Earl Welch Sr., affectionately known as "Mr. Bingo," age 87, started his journey to the spirit world peacefully at his home on November 4, 2025, surrounded by family.

Leonard was born on January 21, 1938, to Lois Welch and Leonard "Stub" Welch. In 1963, he married Nita Spiegel, with whom he had three children. In 1992, he married Molly B. Welch, his loving partner and wife with whom he shared the rest of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Molly B. Welch; children, Lenore (Michael) Shepard, Carol Jean Komanekin, and Leonard E. Welch Jr.; brother, John (Laurie) Welch; sisters, Loraine Welch and Lynne "Squeek" Welch; as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard also leaves behind his loyal companion, Pooka.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nita Spiegel; brothers, Joe Welch, Les Welch, and Delbert Gulbronson; parents, Lois and Leonard "Stub" Welch; special aunt, Alberta "Shorty" Gulbronson; great granddaughters, Cedar Jade Wescott, Sikani Joy Parker, and Tammy Isabel Lynn Parker; and Spike.

Throughout his lifetime, Leonard wore many hats and worked in a variety of roles including farm hand, carpenter, mason, laborer, contractor, restaurant owner, and school bus driver. He proudly served his community working for the tribal property and equipment, a caller for Mohican Bingo-where he earned the nickname "Mr. Bingo"- he was also the Fire Chief for the Stockbridge-Munsee Fire Department for some time.

Leonard enjoyed camping, attending auctions, listening to music, and dancing. His greatest pride and joy, however, was spending time at and maintaining the Mohican Nation Many Trails Park. He especially enjoyed his time there during the annual Mohican Pow Wow, where he could be found sitting around the campfire listening to the drums, meeting people from all over the country, and cooking food. His dedication, humor, and warmth touched the lives of many, and his presence will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 – 3:00 pm on Wednesday November 12, 2025, at Mohican Many Trails Park at N9125 Mohhecconuck Road, Bowler, WI 54416.
