Leonard Whitaker Obituary

Leonard Whitaker was born on August 16, 1945, in Santa Monica, California, and passed away on January 12, 2025, at Country Manor Healthcare in Lakeview Terrace, California where he received excellent care. He is predeceased in death by his parents Rogers E. Whitaker and Mary W. Whitaker. He is survived by his sisters Barbara Neal and Zenobia Woods (Vernon) and brothers George Whitaker (Richard), Roger Whitaker (Inetha), and Robert Whitaker (Karen). He was very close to his niece Molly Ann Taylor (Kevin) as well as other nieces, nephews, and cousins who along with his siblings spent many happy moments together.
Mr. Whitaker served in the Army and was in their care due to a disability and was very proud of his connection with the Veterans Administration. He looked forward to celebrating his birthday each year attended by numerous family members and friends. He also enjoyed having coffee each morning with the Sullivans, close neighbors when he lived in West Los Angeles. He also enjoyed going out to Starbucks and day trips with his brother George. His other passions were baseball and football. He was an Atlanta Braves fan and a fan of the Green Bay Packers. He often went to Dodger Stadium to see games with family and friends. He subscribed to the Los Angeles Times and read the sports section diligently to see baseball and football scores. His interest in baseball began with his listening to games with his grandfather Leonard Williams.
He was a member of the Phillips Chapel CME church in Santa Monica and enjoyed attending Sunday services where he received the Unsung Hero Award.
Mr. Whitaker will be remembered for his kindness and close devotion to family and friends.
We are grateful for the wonderful times we had with him and the fond memories that will be with us forever.
