Leonora Alvarez-Ochoa
Loving mother, devoted wife, and dedicated nurse.
Born in Bogotá, Colombia, to Juan Jesus Ochoa and Ana Maria Jimenez, Leonora emigrated to the United States in 1963 at the age of 18 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1988. For more than 46 years, she made her home in Randolph, Massachusetts, where she built a life centered on caring for her family, her community, and others.
Leonora began her nursing career in a maternity ward in California and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Boston City College. She worked as a registered nurse until her retirement from the Blue Hills Alzheimer's Center. Her commitment to her profession was so strong that she maintained an active nursing license long after retiring. Throughout her long career, Leonora's compassion, professionalism, and warmth touched countless lives-and her advocacy for those in need continued well beyond her work.
Leonora was also a devoted and tireless advocate for family. She worked passionately to help loved ones reunite and find opportunities in the United States. Her heartfelt letter to Senator Ted Kennedy reflected her sense of justice, love of family, and unwavering belief in fairness and opportunity for all.
Leonora is survived by her beloved husband, Leonardo D'Amico of Randolph; her son, Herman Devia of Weymouth; her daughter, Lisa Hughes and her husband Kevin of Brockton; and her cherished granddaughter, Brianna Oliveira and her husband Samir of Weymouth. She also leaves behind a large extended family in Colombia.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, November 9th, from 2:00 – 5:00 PM in the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main St. (RT. 28), Randolph. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 10th, at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
