Obituary published on Legacy.com by Life Tributes Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Oct. 1, 2025.
Leora Mae Walker of Spencer, formerly Stanley, passed away September 18, 2025 with her children by her side at Stoney River Assisted Living Facility in Marshfield to be reunited with her husband of 67 years, who passed away just 2 weeks earlier.
Lee was born in Norwalk, WI on January 15, 1937 to the late Bert and Elizabeth (Vieth) Haldeman. She attended grade school and high school in the Norwalk area. After graduating from high school, she attended college at Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire. It was there she met the love of her life, Edwin Walker. They were married March 22, 1958. In April 1958, Lee paused her college education to selflessly serve as a Marine Corp Wife. She accompanied Ed to Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL and then Marine Corp Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, CA. Ed always gave credit to Lee for his success, saying numerous times he would never have made it through flight training without her support and for raising their first two children mostly alone while he was away on military flight missions. In September 1961, they returned to Wisconsin, eventually settling in Stanley where they would raise their four children.
Lee completed her college education at Wisconsin State University-Eau Claire graduating in January 1967 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She began her career first with the Head Start program and then teaching Kindergarten for Stanley-Boyd school system. She retired after 25 years of teaching in June 1994.
Lee and her husband enjoyed their retirement traveling throughout the United States, spending their winters at their home in Benson, AZ and their summers at their cabin on Lake Wissota. She enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking, gathering with her family and having everyone together most of all.
Forever held in their hearts, Lee's memory will be cherished by her children, Jamison (Shirley) Walker of Rockland, Randy (Michelle) Walker of Foley, AL, Terri (Jerome) Wienke of Spencer, and Chris (Hope) Walker of Spooner; her sister-in-law, Jane (Darrell) Kleven of Eleva; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lee was reunited in eternal life with her parents, Bert and Elizabeth Haldeman; her husband, Edwin Walker; sisters, Doris (Robert) Vieth and Elna (LeRoy) Collinson; sister-in-law, Joyce (Russell) Helberg; and brothers-in-law, Mitchell Walker and Marshall Walker.
Memorial Services will be held by family at a later date.
