Leota Golon Obituary

Leota "Lee" Golon

June 21, 1935 - November 1, 2025

Leota (Lee) Golon passed away at home on November 1 after a long illness. She is the daughter of the late Lester and Fern Tuttle of Ogden, Iowa. She was born in Ogden, IA, June 21, 1935, but spent her school years in Delhi, NY.

Lee is survived by three of her five children, Camille Youngblood (Lewis), of Richmond, VA. and their children, Miles and Ava, Sharon Golon of Culpeper and her son, Ben Blakey and Andrew (Stephanie) of Rochelle, VA, and their son, Ryley Golon; daughter-in-law, Lynn Golon of Hiwassee, VA, and her son, Devin, and Lee's grandson, Connor Doggett; siblings, Delores Richardson of Vancouver, WA and Sandy Chadwick of Des Moines, IA also survive her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Edward; and her daughter, Lorraine; sister, Eunice Southerland; and brother, Jerry Tuttle; and granddaughter, Isabella Pearl Golon.

Lee was a beloved Mother and friend known for her work ethic, her courage, and the unending love she had in her heart. She was born in Ogdon, Iowa, to a long line of frontier-chasing farming families beginning in Puritan, Massachusetts, moving on to Rhode Island, and finally, on the frontiers of New York state and Iowa.

Lee graduated from Delaware Academy in Delhi, NY, in 1953 and, later that year, married Edward James Golon of Hobart, NY. Afterwards, they helped to work the Golon family farm. They soon realized they wanted a farm of their own in an area with a longer growing season. They moved to Culpeper, VA, in 1957 with their first daughter after purchasing a farm in the Raccoon Ford area of Culpeper. There, the rest of their four children were born.

After selling the farm in the 1970s, Lee worked at Aileen, Inc., eventually moving on to IBM for nearly 30 years. However, retirement did not suit her energetic nature; she went on to work for Walmart for another 10 years, to finally retire at the age of 79.

She loved animals and volunteered for the Culpeper Animal Shelter. She also volunteered as a driver for the elderly at Culpeper agencies to help get them to appointments. She was a member of Precious Blood Catholic Church and continued to attend until her upper 80s.

Lee will be remembered as a very giving person whose happiest times were those when surrounded by family. She was the rock of stability to them. There was always laughter and fun going on around her. Everyone will miss her cheerful smile and wishes her Godspeed.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel of Culpeper, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memory Garden, 4160 Rixeyville Road, Jeffersonton, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Culpeper Food Closet at P.O. Box 343, Culpeper, VA, or to the Culpeper Emergency Services at 14022 Public Safety Court, Culpeper, VA.
