LeRoy D. Abitz Jr, 86, of Fond du Lac, died on Monday, February 9, 2026, at St. Agnes Hospital. He was born on January 9, 1940, in Fond du Lac, the son of LeRoy and Ethel (Schultz) Abitz. On July 1, 1961, he married Shirley Behnke in Fond du Lac. LeRoy proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961 - 1967. He was a member of Holy Family Parish. LeRoy worked at Mercury Marine for 41 years until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, camping, playing cards, and spending time with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; brother, Alvin (Lynn) Abitz; sister, Christine Humleker; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Ethel; and four siblings, Ethel Stacey, Kenneth Abitz, Joyce Schwind, and David Abitz.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, from 10:30 AM – 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery Chapel. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM at the chapel. Burial will conclude the service in Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the nurses and doctors in the ICU at SSM St. Agnes for their care and compassion.
