Leroy Wayne Brackey

1938 - 2023

Leroy W. Brackey, age 85 of Lake Mills, died on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at the Lake Mills Care Center.
A funeral for Leroy will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 24, 2023 at Salem Lutheran Church, 401 S. Lake St. in Lake Mills with Pastor Melinda McVey officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Scarville, Iowa with military honors conducted by the American Legion Otto Chose Post #235.
Visitation for Leroy will be 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, June 23, 2023 at Schott Funeral Home, Mittelstadt Chapel, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.

Leroy Wayne Brackey was born on June 8, 1938, in Lake Mills, Iowa, the son of Tobias Brackey and Frances (Westendorf) Brackey. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and received his education at Lake Mills High School.
In April of 1959 Leroy was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Cold War against Russia. He received his honorable discharge in April of 1961.
On June 30, 1962 Leroy was married to Sharon Thorson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa. They raised three children: Natalie, Lois and Wayne. Leroy was a wonderful provider for his family and made sure that Sharon was able to stay at home and raise the children until they were school age. Through the years, he worked at the Lake Mills Creamery, Compact, Cool Springs Canning, Winnebago Industries, Fleetguard, and Larson Manufacturing.
After retirement, Leroy and Sharon enjoyed taking bus trips together. More recently, Leroy could be found at home watching John Wayne movies and listening to his 8 track tapes. He loved to visit with people and especially looked forward to time spent with his grandkids.
Survivors include his three children, Natalie (Mike) Fell of Waseca, MN, Lois Jamtgaard of Lake Mills, and Wayne Brackey of Joice; four grandchildren, Evan Fell, Joe Jamtgaard (Jackie Villela), Samantha Jamtgaard (Cody Coulter), and Christopher Jamtgaard; brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Arden & Delores Thorson and Nancy Helland; as well as many extended relatives and friends.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents; wife Sharon; infant daughter Sarah; four sisters and two brothers, Elaine Sevley, Ferne Jones, Bernice Palmer, Roger Brackey, Janice Winklbauer, and Steve Brackey.
