Leroy Clifford Lyons, 72, of Canonsburg, Cecil Township, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, in South Hills Rehabilitation and Wellness Center Canonsburg.
He was born September 25, 1948, in Isabella, Fayette County, a son of the late Van Lyons and Lena Simon Lyons Booker.
He was a graduate of Red Stone High School in Republic and served honorably with the United States Air Force in Medical Services, during the Vietnam War.
He had been with the Pennsylvania State Police for nine years as a dispatcher and was a South Strabane Police Officer. Prior to his retirement in 2003, Leroy had been a Lieutenant detective with the Chartiers Township Police Department. After retiring, he was a driver for Jeffries Drug Store in Canonsburg.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 22, the SNPJ Lodge 138 in Strabane, American Legion Post 793 in Cecil and previously the Veterans of Foriegn Wars Post 191 in Canonsburg. He was a member and past Exulted Ruler of the Elk Lodge 776 of Washington. Leroy loved going to rendezvous, camping, knife collecting and his beloved dogs, Oscar and Bailey.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Linda Roberts Lyons; sons, Joseph Lyons and Jarrett Lemonakis (Brandy Baker); daughters, Christie (Shane) Land, Leigh Ann (Andy) Shaner, Sara (Will) Willard, Samantha (Chuck) Rizor and Lacey Lemonakis (Kris Small); and 15 grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, is his brother, William Lyons; and a sister, Nancy Arbuckle.
Friends and family are welcome from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the time of services with the Rev. Brian King, Friday, January 22, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed.
Interment, with full military honors, will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. FOP Lodge 22 services will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the family to aide with funeral expenses.
