Leroy Sherwood, 86, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 26, 2021 in his Berkshire, NY home. His wife of 53 years, Joann, predeceased him by 6 months. Leroy was predeceased by parents Guy and Marie Sherwood; sisters Connie Wandell and Mina Babcock. He is survived by children, Leroy (Chip) and Kimberly Sherwood Jr, Wayne (Patty) Sherwood, Kelly (Bob) Price, Karen Stephans, Jerry (Laurie) Wicks; siblings, Nellie Moses, June Ink, Grace Brooks, Doris (Ken) Wyant, Starry (Sharon) Sherwood, Ed (Lena) Sherwood, Lucy (Dave) Soper, Ruth (Dan) Smith; as well 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He will be missed by his longtime friends Roger and Grace Howland.
Leroy retired from Cornell University after 25 years of service. He was a member of the Berkshire Fire Department for 48 years, attended the Richford Congregational Church, volunteered at Richford Food Truck Giveaway, and was involved with the Berkshire Senior Citizens. Leroy retired to enjoy his favorite hobbies that included hunting, fishing, puttering around the house, and he would always volunteer to help family whenever anyone needed a hand. The family is thankful for the care given to Leroy by his son Chip and his wife Kim in his final months.
Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley, on Wednesday, Dec. 1st from 11-12. A funeral service will follow there at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Berkshire Fire Department, 12515 NY 38, Berkshire, NY 13736 in loving memory of Leroy.
