Obituary for Leroy Ben Steel Jr.
September 3, 1949 – November 13, 2025
With profound love and heartfelt remembrance, the family of Leroy Ben Steel Jr. announces his peaceful passing on November 13, 2025, in Weatherford, Texas. Born on September 3, 1949, in
Fort Worth, Texas, Leroy's life was a tapestry of quiet strength, deep kindness, and a gentle spirit that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Leroy grew up with a deep appreciation for the simple, meaningful joys of life. A true outdoorsman, he found solace along the water's edge with a fishing pole in hand and cherished the stillness of early mornings spent in nature while hunting. These moments brought him peace and connection-to the world around him, and to the people he shared them with.
A gifted musician, Leroy could make a guitar sing with emotion and ease. He enjoyed playing a variety of instruments, often filling a room with melodies that reflected his calm, thoughtful nature. Music was one of his many quiet ways of expressing love and joy, and those who heard him play knew the sincerity that lived in every note.
Leroy also delighted in working with his hands. Whether tending to a garden or breathing new life into an old car, he approached these passions with patience and care. His garden was a place of beauty and abundance, nurtured just as kindly as he nurtured the relationships in his life. Restoring old cars brought him great satisfaction-each project a blend of problem-solving, creativity, and the steadfast determination he carried through all aspects of his life.
Though soft-spoken, Leroy's presence was warm and steady. He was a man who believed in speaking kindly, listening deeply, and seeing the good in others. His humility was matched only by his generosity of spirit. Everyone who crossed his path felt welcomed, respected, and appreciated.
Leroy is lovingly survived by his sister Yolanda Sue Fratzke, brother Danny Carl Steel, and sister Janice Laverne Dalrymple; his cherished nieces and nephews Dana Watkins, Benny Henry, Jon Colwell, Diedra Johnson, and Aimee Mayfield; as well as numerous cousins who held him dear. Each of them carries forward fond memories of Leroy's warmth, quiet humor, and easygoing grace.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Ben Steel Sr. and Ruby May Steel, whom he loved deeply and whose teachings and values remained a guiding light throughout his life.
Leroy's legacy is one of gentleness, integrity, and love. He leaves behind an enduring reminder that a good life is not measured by grand gestures, but by quiet kindness, honest work, and the compassion we show to others. Though he will be missed beyond words, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the serenity he found in life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life and memory at the graveside service on Thursday, November 20th at 2 PM at Azleland Cemetery.
