Leslie Irvin Hook was born on August 10, 1963, in Belle Fourche South Dakota to Charles and Barbara Hook. They lived in Moorcroft, Wyoming, until 1974 when the family moved to Buffalo where Les grew up and went to school. He graduated from Buffalo High School with the class of 1981. He spent summers in Hulett, Wyoming at his uncle's Ranch. When he was of the age to work, he took a job at the Table Supply IGA for a short time, then worked construction with Ron Funk and Gordon Bybee. In November of 1980, during his senior year in high school he was introduced to Christine Granstrom through a mutual friend at a hunting camp. That meeting sparked a future relationship and after graduation on June 5th of 1981 he and his bride, Christine were united as one and made their home in Buffalo. Randy and Vanessa were later born completing their family.
Les went to work for the City of Buffalo as summer help. He was laid off in the fall and went to work for Stafford Well Service in Linch, Wyoming. Les was called back to work for the City in May of 1983 as part-time summer help. On August 31st, 1983 he went full-time with the city, starting on the garbage truck. Les has worked every department for the Public Works with the city. In July of 1996 he became the Water Treatment Plant operator for four years. In March of 2000 he was hired as Public Works Director filling the position of good friend Bob Borgialli. During that time, he was part of the construction of Tie Hack Dam and the water treatment plant. He saw several changes in the community and made many friends. He had a heart of gold and would help however he could.
Due to COVID and ill health, he retired in 2023, three months shy of forty years with the City of Buffalo. He was a longtime member of Summit Church, served on the church board for sixteen years and was involved in various activities of the church through the years.
Les was not one to sit still for very long and had to be doing something. His favorite thing to do was working with wood, reloading, and whatever he could do to stay busy. He loved spending time with his family, camping on the mountain, hunting with the boys, fishing, tinkering on vehicles and anything outdoors.
