Marlene Jacks, 75, of Luray, Virginia (formerly of Memphis, TN), passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025.
Born on January 27, 1950, in Fabens, Texas, to Les “Tex” and Iva Rodgers, Marlene lived a life marked by creativity, problem-solving, and an infectious sense of humor. She was a passionate karate enthusiast, achieving the rank of 4th-degree black belt and inspiring countless students through her teaching. Marlene’s loves included the Beach Boys, Star Wars, Star Trek, and the Dallas Cowboys as well as collecting Pez dispensers, crafting memes, and earning her reputation as the “Queen of Puns.” Her quick wit and joyful spirit brightened the lives of family, friends, and her wide online community.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Misty Dawn Jacks, and her parents.
Marlene is survived by her daughter, Heidi Spreier (Colin); granddaughter, Madison Mitchell; grandchildren, Ellie and Beckham Goldy; sisters, Darlene (George) Paxson and DiAnn (Seth) Butler; niece, Yvonne Paxson; nephew, Mark Cosby; and her very dear friend, William Helm.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages sharing fond memories or donations to a charity of your choice in her honor. Marlene’s legacy of laughter and love will endure in the hearts of all who knew her.
