A Celebration of Life will be held for Lessie Louise Johnston Brumfield, 98, who died peacefully with her family surrounding her at Trend Health and Rehab,
Brookhaven, MS on Tuesday, December 23, 2025
Visitation is 9-11 a.m. Saturday, December 27 at Adams United Methodist Church, Auburn with services there at 11 a.m. The Rev. Danny Speed will officiate. Interment will be at Montgomery Baptist Church, Summit, MS. Hartman Jones Funeral Home, McComb, are handling all arrangements.
Louise was born in Amite County, the first of twelve children born to Henry Rawls and Luessie Carraway Johnston of
Smithdale, MS on June 28, 1927.
Being the first child of the family she considered herself the boss of all her younger siblings. She loved each one fiercely and always taught them that family mattered above everything else. She wanted them to be proud of their family and always to make them proud.
She was raised through the depression and always valued that fact throughout her life as she made do with little, but always considered it much. Happiness is not found in monetary things but through Jesus Christ, who she accepted at an early age. She was a member of Adams United Methodist Church in Auburn and taught the Junior Sunday School class for many years.
Louise wasn't familiar with store bought clothes because all of her clothes were homemade and her mother taught her well the value of knowing how to sew and quilt. Her wardrobe could outshine any store or factory clothing because they were sewn with care and precision.
Louise married the love of her life, Francis Eugene Brumfield on January 11, 1947 and raised three children that loved her with their all. There was many a time when a switch was needed but love was given instead.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Brumfield; one son, Harry Warren Brumfield; two brothers, Henry Harold Johnston and Clayton Rawls Johnston; three sisters, Mattie Newman, Betty Smith and Nevelyn Allred.
She is survived by one son, Roger Nelson (Sandra) Brumfield and one daughter, Beverly (Franklin) Moak; six grandchildren, Lyle (Sharon) Brumfield and Lacey (David) Adams; Jennifer Price, Justin Moak and Jill Moak; Tylyn Brumfield; seven great-grandchildren, Nick (Julianna) Brumfield, Alex Brumfield and fiancé, Ella Webb; A.J. Price, Wyatt Price, Eli Price, Mia Davis and Noah Davis; four brothers, Robert Johnston, Thomas Earl (Mary Alyce) Johnston; Guy Johnston, and Douglas Johnston; two sisters, Etta Merle Hux and Lexine (Jimmy) Deer, one sister-in-law, Tot Johnston and a large group of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers at Trend Health and Rehab and the compassionate and loving caregivers from Bristol Hospice of
Brookhaven, MS.
Pallbearers will be her great-grandsons, Nick Brumfield, Alex Brumfield, A.J. Price, Wyatt Price, Eli Price and Noah Davis.
