Lester Bowden Jr. was born in Kistler, West Virginia, on June 7, 1952, to the late Doc Lester Bowden and Ruby Bowden(Banks). He peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 5, 2026. Lester received his education in the Boston Public Public School System and graduated from Boston Technical High School in 1970. Upon completing his studies, Lester enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

Lester served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1970 to 1976 as an Intelligence Specialist. In his role, he was responsible for researching, gathering and disseminating sensitive intelligence information. Lester attained the rank of Sergeant E-5. Lester embodied the values of honor, courage, and commitment that define the Marine Corps, demonstrating dedication and loyalty throughout his service. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal, which served as lasting symbols of his bravery, integrity, and love for freedom.

After completing his military service, Lester made his home in Chicago. It was there he met and married Linda Scott, and together they were blessed with a son, Michael Bowden. Lester valued independence and walked his own path. Lester worked in various roles, including time spent on the Chicago Fire Department, before eventually returning to Massachusetts. He connected with his family and that time together was meaningful.

Lester is preceded in death by his parents Lester Bowden Sr., and Ruby Bowden (Banks), as well as his brothers Conney Berger, and Daryl Bowden.

Lester leaves behind cherished memories with his son, Michael Bowden (Denise), his beloved Grandson Debonaire Bowden, and Granddaughter Unique Bowden, all of Las Vegas, Nevada. He is also survived by siblings James Anderson (Leah), Beatrice Samuels (William), and Ronald Bowden (Kimberly), all of Boston, Massachusetts; Craig Bowden Sr., of Toledo, Ohio; Erica McNear, Derrick Bowden, And Durrell Bowden, all of Nathalie, Virginia. In addition, his lifelong friend Anthony Hightower of Boston. Massachusetts, will always remember him fondly. Lester also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing hour on Thursday February 19, 2026 from 10-11 AM followed by a Religious Service from 11AM -12 PM, in the Joseph Russo Funeral Home, 814 American Legion Highway, Roslindale, MA. 02131. A private military burial will be at a later date in Bourne National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to the Veterans Homeless Shelter.
