Lester Scott Helmick, age 77, of Monterey died Thursday evening, December 6, 1990 at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Richmond.
He was born June 1, 1913 at Blue Grass, a son of Eli Joseph and Sally (Hedrick) Helmick.
On December 11, 1959 he married Annie Fay Tidd, who survives.
He was a member of Thorny Bottom Presbyterian Church and had served in the Army in Italy with the 3005th Quartermasters Corps in WWII.
Also surviving are a son, Roy Scott Helmick of Monterey; step-daughter, Ocie Hatcher of McDowell; two brothers, Ben of Mt. Crawford and Charles Helmick of Walkerton; sister, Vivian Wolfe of Romney, WV; and step-granddaughter, Candace Hatcher.
Mr. Helmick was preceded in death by a son, Steven Allen Helmick; and brother, George Ray Helmick.
A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Glen Adkins, with burial in Wagner family Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Allen Puffenbarger, Albert Malcolm, Martin and Garland Helmick, Dallas Doyle Jr. Carl Hull and Arnold Vandevander.
Memorials may be made to the Highland Rescue Squad, Monterey, Va. 24465.
