Lester SunEagle Obituary

Visit the Hood Mortuary - Durango website to view the full obituary.

Henry SunEagle had many passions in his life. He loved rock music, basketball, going for walks, and the community of family, neighbors, and coworkers that he had around him. The foundation of his life was always his connection to his Native roots.

He was a member of the Pitahawirata Band of the Pawnee Tribe and was involved with the Four Corners Gourd Dance & Southern Straight Dance Society. He loved giving back to the indigenous communities that gave him so much. He spent 17 years working as a Dialysis Driver for the Southern Ute Community & Home Health Services, a job that he met with both compassion and enthusiasm. He understood the importance of his role and how integral his daily work was to helping other people.

His stature made him sometimes intimidating, but he brought a quick and warm sense of humor to break down barriers and make others feel instantly comfortable. He will be remembered with the same compassion and empathy that he gave to others throughout his life.

Henry is survived by his children, Taurra SunEagle, Miranda SunEagle, Zacharry SunEagle; grandson: Logan Pereira; brothers, James "Kitooks" Sun Eagle and Russell Sun Eagle; sisters, Michelle Lake, Candace Dan, Sandra Red; uncles, Barney Pinnecoose, Alfred HorseChief, Jr.; cousins, Sarah SunEagle, Jeneen SunEagle-Shawnee, Darren SunEagle, Danna SunEagle, Shiri Howell, Dewayne Richards.

He is preceded in passing by his father, Lester Henry Sun Eagle, Sr.; mother, Hazel Howell; brother, Leonard Sun Eagle; aunts, Sherri Pinnecoose, and Cynthia HorseChief Aken.
