Leta Curry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 27, 2011.
Leta M. Curry died March 27, 2011 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born July 28, 1919 in DeRoche, Hot Spring County to John Austin and Isabel Thornton Tisdale, and was the last survivor of their eight children. She married Aaron Curry, who was stationed at the Army & Navy General Hospital, in 1941. They traveled and lived all over the world during his career as an Air Force officer. Although she loved the life of an Air Force wife, she was happy when they retired to Hot Springs in 1962. They opened Curry Studio, and worked together doing portrait, wedding, and commercial photography until Aaron’s death in 1976. Leta was an accomplished seamstress. She left a legacy in the form of quilts that she made for family and friends. Known for her sense of humor, she was gracious, generous, and kind, and a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. Her church, Oaklawn United Methodist, was an important part of her life for a half-century and the source of many life-long friends. Leta is survived by a daughter, Elaine C. Johnston of Hot Springs; a son, Michael Curry and his wife Joanna Regulska of Highland Park, New Jersey; grandchildren Greg Johnston of Dallas, Texas; Scott and Addie Johnston of Frisco, Texas; Rachel Curry of Highland Park, New Jersey; Ethan Curry of Ojai, California; Annemarie and William Haar of Oakland, California; and great-grandchildren Beata Haar, and Jacob, Emma Claire and Sara Kate Johnston. She also leaves many dear nieces, nephews and beloved friends. The service will be Friday, April 1, at 10:00 a.m. at Oaklawn United Methodist Church with the Reverend Fred Hunter officiating. Interment at Hickory Grove Cemetery will follow. Visitation is Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at Gross Mortuary. Pallbearers are Rachel Curry, Ethan Curry, Annemarie Haar, Scott Johnston, Greg Johnston, and Angel Saratiel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Oaklawn United Methodist Church, 216 Higdon Ferry, Hot Springs, AR, 71913 or to the charity of your choice.
