Lewis E. Baker passed away peacefully at home, January 24, 2026, surrounded by his children.
He was born in Lewisville Ohio on June 19, 1931 to Floyd L. and Helen J. Baker. Lewis grew up in Akron where he developed a strong work ethic and deep love for his family. Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and valued his service in the Korean War, training dogs. He retired from B&W after 27 years of dedicated service with the Nuclear Equipment Division. Lewis was an avid golfer and bowler up into his late eighties and had 2 300 games and accomplished a 7-10 split which reflected his skill and love for the game.
Lewis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Doris J. Baker. He is survived by children Jeff (Shirley), Georgine (Roger), Troy (Cathy), Mylene (Jim), and Melody; grandchildren, Adam, Carissa (Andy), Zac (Christy), Samantha (Preston), Ashlie (Ross), Ryan, Holly (Rich) Jon (Courtney), McKenzie (Aaron), Morgan (Ryan); 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Heartfelt appreciation to an angel on earth Joyce Thompson, Lewis’s kind hearted compassionate caregiver. Joyce provided exceptional care and went above and beyond with every need and is thought of as family. Emotional gratitude to granddaughter McKenzie, for her loving devoted care in the last hours.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, January 29th from 10-11am at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd, Akron, OH 44312. Funeral services will be held at 11am with Pastor Justus Snow officiating. Burial to follow at Hillside Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Crusade Baptist Church, 2982 Copley Road, Akron, Ohio 44321.
